If someone with a paper approaches you with something like above written on it, do not pay, it's a scam. Call the police.
It happened to me in Surat. I live in Ghod Dod area and two women knocked on my door asking for money, they handed me a piece of paper and said they are raising money for a natural calamity that had occurred in a a small Rajasthan village.
I asked them "has there been a drought?".
She said "Sorry Hindi only". I don't know why I didn't caught it then but I have been scammed the very first time. Never Again; Once bitten Twice Shy.
I handed them Rs. 50. I had heard about no such thing and was very naive to do so without even knowing all the facts.
As to my curiosity, just after they left, I searched "Ranipur village" and got to know the village is in Uttar Pradesh and another in Uttarakhand, so no Ranipur in Rajasthan then.
Then I typed "Ranipur calamity" and stumbled upon two results related to a scam which had the same exact thing written as that on the paper.
Basically, they give you a piece of paper and also the name of people who have donated a large sum of money typically around Rs. 500.
After they left, I strode down the building and asked the watchmen about them and complained then it was a scam, he is like "I wasn't here for a few minutes."
You did a very fine job there. Much Obliged.
Seriously though, always ask for a card/identification. These type of act will prevent me in future from giving to those who are genuine and always raise a suspicion. They will probably scam the whole region where I live.

ReplyDeleteNow these women are in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. Two days ago two girls came to my home with the same paper. 'Human Representation', saying they are from Rajasthan. As soon as I read this , I knew its a scam. I asked for their IDs and both started to shake. But I wasnt sure if it was really a scam. I said let me get my phone and call the police for your verification. The moment i turned both of them ran away leving behind this paper with me. The girls were young , I didnt chase them . Today one old women came to my house with a same paper but this time she said she is from Ranipur Orrisa , and I was like ' dont you guys keep yourself in sync with each other ' . I asked the lady for her ID, she realized she did a mistake coming to this house. she started coming up with mixed up logics. I showed her the paper I already had. She said they must be some different people. I scolded her, asked her yo run away. Could have called the police, but I didnt. Police very well now they are in town, they just dont want to take any action.
Funny thing i noticed, in both the papers, the first donor was 'R K Sharma 500/-'
Such things cant controlled by police. Citizens needs to be aware.
Now when I did some research I found out that they were caught in Bodhgaya,Bihar in Feb 2014. But were left with a warning. Then spotted in Jan 2015 in Manglore and in Surat . And now in Kullu, HP. A news article says this is a group in 25 women.
Today morning a girl came to me and requested to help them, at first I believed but before giving them money I thought of checking internet and found this post, I was about to call police but they ran away

Damn it! Human representation again. This time, ranipur was in andhra. I checked but no sign. I told her, lady of age ~40, speaking english hindi Mix, then she asked me for food and water. I checked this blog later after she is gone. Should i call the police? Confusion. My father used to say, think about his self respect, somebody who begs to you. What else is remain with him.

This time its varanasi! A girl this morning came to me n gave me a paper on which the same thing was written! Unfortunately i didn't knew about this n i gave Rs100 to her! I came home n checked about what has happend there n then i found this post! I went back at the place bt was unable to find her!

ReplyDeleteThis time it is Greater Noida. A lady in her 50s, stopped my car, opened the door of my car without my acknowledgement and gave me that piece of paper. She would not budge after my repeated requests. Finally I gave her 50rs and she left with some complaining statements. She even used some curse words, not on me, but they were disgusting.

ReplyDeleteNow these are in Ludhiana,Punjab. A very young girl came to me shows a paper something written on it and ask for some donation for her study as she is studying in 10th class. She was talking in English but when i communicated with her in English she got faint away. Even she can not pronouns "10th". Really hilarious!!! Even Her dress was not like any school dress. a gray/black check box skirt and baby pink lining shirt. No one allow a shirt and skirt in a Village School in such a manner. I dont know why these people do such things they can clearly ask for job or some food.

ReplyDeleteHappened today in Gandhinagar with me. She asked for her school fees. Seeing that already many people have donated in 1000 and 500, told her that you already have your school fees. She then said that these were for entire village children. She seemed confused. I offered Rs. 50 for which she said already people have not offered so less. Then, I was alarmed, and asked for id's, etc. They said they have just shifted and excuses. I kept the Rs. 50 note back. And then she said, how can you take back a donation. I said that I'll rather donate in a temple. And then she told me rudely to get going.

I gave 100 rupee.After some time when they passed from road I again meet them at time they were 3 (two girls and one woman)and I have read your post and show them see ranipur not exist in rajasthan.They told me that not ranipur but ranifal. Then they went. Actually Ranifal exist in Rajasthan. I asked them also about ID card but they told we don't have but our Maa'm have and she was stand at gate of Navsari Agricultural university. As soon as we provided Rs1000, after a few minutes I had a doubt and searched for this Rainipur Rajasthan and ended up on your blog and came to know it is a scam. Thank you from the entire office and this business complex for the information, the guard were able to catch them and get the money back. And they were handed over to the police.
ReplyDeleteToday in narhe, Pune in a medical college hostel. Thinking that they must be allowed by the dean and our warden, my roommate and I gave them 50 Rs. They were caught and questioned by our guards when my batch mates raised an alarm. After taking them to the police station they were again interrogated and released and there was no further investigation into this. They still roam free.

Today 5 July one girl came to me with the same tag as mentioned above asking for help for the same cause as mentioned above. I gave her Rs. 50 and my wife's used shirt. When I asked her for her Identification, she told me that she is Rajput and lived in drought affected area in Rainipur, Rajasthan. Now she is staying in Dharamshala situated at New Delhi. She gave her blessing and left. I suspect her as Rohingya from Myanmar. Now I am informing to Police on this. She doesn't have any ID and told me that she left her ID in Dharamshala. I think its a serious issue and should be handled carefully.
